Hello! Help advice, please. In our square residential basement (ceiling height 220 cm, 42 sq.m., no windows, 2 ventilation holes opposite each other) mold appears on the walls, the basement does not flow. We don’t know what to do. Insulate the outside is not very desirable. Maybe something can be done from the inside? Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon. To eliminate it will require a set of measures.

    1. First you need to check the blind area around the perimeter of the house for its integrity and for subsidence of soil along its edge. If you find a subsidence of the soil, then rainwater comes to the foundation and leads to increased humidity. The painful spot is circled in the figure. Moreover, the fungus is on the ceiling, and not on the walls or floor level.

    2. The next step is to check the traction. Bring the lighter to the hole, the flame should draw inward or attach a piece of newspaper. In case of weak draft or its absence, install forced ventilation on one of the ventilation openings. Since the basement is residential, I recommend choosing a silent channel model. Details can be found on our website. https://engineerex.decorexpro.com/en/vent/oborud/kanalnye-besshumnye-ventilyatory-dlya-vytyazhki.html.

    3. It is completely possible to eliminate the occurrence of fungus by the subsequent installation of a stationary dehumidifier. This is guaranteed to solve the existing problem, based on your cubic capacity of 93 m3.

    4. Well, it is advisable to purchase a hydrometer. I recommend choosing an electronic model for convenience. With it, you can control the humidity in the basement yourself. It should not exceed 60%.

Be sure to carefully remove the existing fungus with special tools. It is necessary to completely kill the spores in order to avoid new formations in the future.
