Hello. There is a “Whirlpool VS 601 IX”. He inherited. I tortured him for several days, but I still did not understand how to use it.

It normally cools the refrigerator compartment, but after turning off the compressor, cooling is zero. The freezer works one hundred percent, there are no questions for it. Help with advice, otherwise I rummaged through the entire Internet and found nothing. What is the problem?

Good evening. The manufacturer today gave me something like this answer to your question.

“If the temperature inside the refrigerator seems high, check:

    1. Is the cooling control set correctly.
    2. Is there a blockage inside the air ducts?
    3. How often does the door open.
    4. Is the refrigerator clogged with too many products.
    5. Is the seal moving away from the door. ”

Of course, it was a reinsurance and definitely, these tips did not help us.

We look further. Your model has a know frost system. Moreover, the know-how frost both on the refrigerator and on the freezer. Your symptomatology is such that in the defrost mode the refrigerator compartment heats up too quickly or too much. For it should not be cooled when the compressor is resting.

Here, I should note that, unfortunately, you did not indicate the temperature regime of the refrigerator compartment and the freezer in standby mode for the cold / cold and cold / cold. Perhaps everything is all right with you. IMPORTANT (I’ll leave it as a note) - take measurements and also take a picture of your refrigerator. Although it would be very nice to get more instructions for use. There the control unit also has temperature modes ... And your model, by the way, has an indicator of the temperature mode, that is, if there were problems with high temperature, it would signal. But we will nevertheless analyze the faults in case the truth is not going smoothly.

So, the possible causes of a real breakdown:

    1. The primary check is the evaporator. Get to it and notice if it is covered with ice. If covered, improper cooling is quite possible in defrost mode. Defrost the refrigerator completely, then turn it on after a while, but do not fill with food immediately. See how it will work. Also, at the same time, pay attention to the correct operation of the fan, although in such models, they are quite durable. In principle, if there is a failure, you will change it with your own hands, the main thing is to correctly connect the new one to the electronic control system. By the way, during switching on after defrosting, measure the temperature in both chambers.

    2. Check ten defrost. To do this, the system needs to “ring”, we need to check its resistance. Unfortunately, the exact specifications for this model could not be found, perhaps the information was somehow stored with you. In extreme cases, you can contact the service department and try to clarify there. Here's a video on how to change the defrost ten - https://youtu.be/Nz73TVbz-IA.

    3. Check the fuses and defrost sensor. At room temperature, its resistance is approximately 13 kΩ. With decreasing temperature, its resistance rises. If the sensor does not work correctly, naturally cooling is also performed. On electronic control systems, such sensors are called thermistors. The sensor, placed in one of the chambers of the refrigerator, is connected to an electronic control module. It is very important, as it controls the temperature regime, giving commands to the module.

    4. The electronic control system requires flashing. Of course, this requires full knowledge of specific “brains” and remarkable abilities in their replacement. Only the service wizard will cope and it is better to identify such problems on the spot so as not to confuse anything.

    5. Electronic defrost timer. Here, of course, it would be nice to provide measurements ... The electronic timer can be buggy, and set the compressor to the wrong mode of operation. It can be called, but it is necessary to entrust it to the master. The tasks of this element include the timely inclusion of heating elements.

    6. Thermal relays - maintain and adjust the set temperature. Again - malfunctions, a problem with the temperature regime.

    7. Damper - controls the air flow entering the refrigerator compartment. The air supplied to the compartment is forced by the fan. While the shutter is closed, he, of course, does not get there. In general, this element rarely breaks, more from mechanical stress, but it happens.

    8. Blockage in the capillary tube. This element delivers refrigerant, in our case, isobutane. The capillary tube should only be cleaned by a specialist with special equipment!

Unfortunately, I must note that if you are not good at electronics and the work of refrigerators of this type, you can certainly practice this appliance, but if it is dear to you, entrust it to the master. Better wait for the first time and see what he will do. Still, inept hands can lead not only to damage the device, but also to a threat to your safety.

While I ask you to take measurements of the temperature in both cameras and give us the data. Perhaps everything is fine with you.
