Hello. Yes, you can make such a replacement, but there are several nuances:
1. How will the absence of an expansion tank in the hot circuit affect?
2. What will give you the presence of an expansion tank in a cold circuit and how did you do without it earlier?
Theoretically, such a replacement is not difficult to perform, but it all depends on the goals that you pursue. In front of the boiler, it is better to put a membrane tank, instead of an open tank, put an air vent, then you will get a heating system with natural circulation of a closed type.

I don’t understand what the vehicle wants to achieve with this replacement. Can someone explain to me? There are many troubles with replacement: dismantle the expansion tank in one circuit, then connect the pipeline; further installation of the tank in a different circuit. And it fit here in two lines of text, and work there for the whole day. I am interested in the motivation of the author of the question - why did he need to do this “permutation”, if I may say so?
